- Governance and Institutions can apply to corporate, international, national, local governance or to the interactions between other sectors of society and within private or state-run institutions. The term "governance", while vague, is typically used to describe how a state uses its political power and authority, in whose interests are power and authority used, and how power is and authority in a state reproduced over time. 'Good' governance is often interpreted as the responsible and accountable management of institutions capable of realizing the economic goals while respecting human rights and providing overall stability and value for a society. This subtopic should contain terms related to the pursuit of good governance policies, including concepts of legitimacy, capacity and authority, as well as the transparency and accountability of oversight and check and balance institutions, and development of internal structures to build capacity for good governance, including access to information.
